Horsemanship for horse owners - Phase I (mobile service)

Letty with former school horse "Bob"Please don't consider this program to be merely "riding lessons." This program addresses "horsemanship" by improving the communication between you and your horse both on the ground and under saddle whether you ride Western or English. It includes: everyday safety procedures designed to minimize risk of injury to horse or handler; balance and control skill exercises at the walk and trot designed to maximize communication in a balanced and fluid manner; methods to help develop your ability to feel your horse; and basic training principles which will help you to improve your horse's responsiveness to your cues. Horsemanship for horse owners - Phase II (mobile service)

Letty on her horse, "Duke""Phase II" deals with more advanced ground handling skills and low-key techniques to keep your horse mannerly and respectful, (no need to purchase special "sticks"), while we continue to develop the owner's skills in the saddle. The Phase II rider practices mounted exercises that continue to increase balance, softness, and feel, and develops more control of the horse's hips and shoulders at the trot and lope (canter). We also work on leads, smooth upward and downward transitions, and collection. (Photo at right is Letty with Duke during his English transition period.)

Fees

Fees are $50 for private instruction in 1-hour sessions. Phase II students may opt for $30 1/2-hour sessions.

A young child on a very old horse - a combination I like!

teaching teenager

I try to set a good example for my students by wearing a helmet when I teach (you'll sometimes catch me without one, but never while riding!). Concussions are very serious and easy to get from a simple fall off a horse.
